The Department of Safety Engineering is one of the undergraduate teaching management institution in the College of Water Resources and Hydropower. At present, the undergraduate major is safety engineering, which is a water safety specialty set up by Hohai University in combination with its own water conservancy expertise. This major was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2023 and enrolled students in the same year which takes moral education as its basic task, adheres to the educational concept of student-oriented, takes consolidating the knowledge system of safety science as its foundation, highlights the background of water conservancy industry as its characteristic, takes deepening digitalization and intelligence as its development direction, and comprehensively improves the quality of undergraduate talent training from two aspects: mode reform and system guarantee.
This major relies on the professional resources of national first-class undergraduate water conservancy and hydropower engineering to carry out theoretical teaching and production practice, including 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers and 11 practical teaching bases; Strengthen school-enterprise cooperation and integration of production and education through school-enterprise cooperation courses and Industry-University-Research platform; Organize and establish the national-level competition of National College Students' Innovative Design Competition for Water Conservancy, Jiangsu College Students' Innovative Design Competition for Water Conservancy and Jiangsu College Students' Innovative Design Competition for Machinery and other extracurricular activities, so as to cultivate excellence and comprehensive talents in all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique, beauty and labor.
Meanwhile，teachers related to this major won 2 second prizes for national teaching achievements, 2 provincial teaching achievement prizes, 1 provincial teaching reform project, and 1 first prize and above in the national lecture competition for young teachers of water conservancy discipline. Students have made great achievements in national, provincial and ministerial science and technology competitions, such as National College Students' Innovative Water Conservancy Design Competition, National College Students' Innovative Mechanical Design Competition, National College Students' Mathematical Modeling Competition, China International internet plus College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and Challenge Cup China College Students' Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, and won a series of national, provincial and ministerial awards.
